HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM LONDON CELTIC PUNKS. 2022… THE STATISTICS

Well who would have guessed after everything what a year 2022 would be for Celtic-Punk music. Loads of great music headed our way including pretty much all the big hitters releasing albums as well as several debuts that were all just as good as the established bands!

For ourselves we published a whopping 145 articles and our readership rose 5% on top of last years 9%. Our popular monthly Odds’n’Sods feature now makes us the only place to regularly find out what’s going on in the Celtic-Punk world. We get fantastic feedback from bands but then that’s to be expected isn’t it but it’s what you the readers think that is far more important to us so continue to let us know.

If you want to see the site grow then why not put finger to keyboard yourself and submit something you think we’d enjoy. If it interests you then it will interest us. We’re always looking for help with reviews if that’s something you think you can help with. You don’t have to be a genius to do this or know where to put a semicolon just have a bit of passion. Finally before we get on with it a big happy new year to all the contributors and readers to the site and all the bands and folk who make the scene what it is.

The Best Of awards was by far the most popular post and also lots of views for the new Frankie McLaughlin single through out the year. We had several great interviews this year with Ted Hutt, Marc Orrell, Richard Balls and Ian Prowse and we’d like to feature more so if you’ve any suggestions write in. We also started the Celtic-Punk Q and A and featured the whole of Ferocious Dog as well as several characters from the scene. The next one will be very soon with members of the Boston Irish band Shadows Of Boston.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM LONDON CELTIC PUNKS. 2021… THE STATISTICS

Well not a lot to say about 2021 is there except that it was better than 2020! At least gigs are back for most of us and bands are back in the recording studios too. During 2021 we published a whopping 116 posts slightly down on last year and the first time in five years the number of posts has decreased. The vast majority of posts have been reviews but our popular monthly Odds’n’Sods feature now makes us the only place to regularly find out what’s going on in the Celtic-Punk world. We got fantastic feedback from bands but then they would wouldn’t they but readers praise is far more important so keep that coming in please.

We continued to try during 2021 to steer the site away from only doing reviews and we achieved that somewhat as you can see from this top ten. Thanks in no small part to Andy – The Celtic Punk Author but also to all who contributed in any way. One of the saddest events for us in 2021 came early on in the year when a great friend of the site Mike Kilroe passed away – Codladh sámh. Sad news soon followed with the tragic death of Cush the leader of Celtic-Punk legends The Men They Couldn’t Hang.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM LONDON CELTIC PUNKS. 2020… THE STATISTICS

Well not much to say about 2020 is there. The pandemic and the subsequent lockdown was a disaster for music in general but for Celtic-Punk especially. In a genre where bands have many more members than ordinary bands it was harder to get together and with the cancellation of gigs its been even harder. Still though we have got through it and finally the light at the end of the tunnel is not the light of an oncoming train (for now!). During 2020 we here at London Celtic Punks have published a whopping 122 posts which is the most we ever had in a year. It’s also the fifth year in a row our number of posts has increased. Most of these posts have been reviews and we also introduced the popular Odds’n’Sods feature making us the only place to find out what’s going on in the Celtic-Punk world. We have again had fantastic feedback from bands that our reviews have had a positive effect on music sales and things like Facebook Likes so we’re even more grateful that you seem to be listening and acting upon our recommendations.

Despite 2020’s problems (!) live music continued to come out and this Christmas has seen a flurry of releases the like of which we have never seen before and as we never like to miss a chance to give you some new music so here’s Rover MacChroi, better known as The Irish Rover- the essential Irish Punk singer and lyricist and his brand new track based on you know what!

REMEMBER TO TUNE BACK IN ON JANUARY 17th WHEN THE LONDON CELTIC PUNKS BEST OF 2020 LISTS ARE REVEALED!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM LONDON CELTIC PUNKS. 2019… THE STATISTICS

I know we say this every fecking time we do this but once again it’s been another absolutely fantastic year for both the celtic-punk scene in general and for us personally.  The amount of views, article likes and comments has shot up more than we could have imagined. We have also exceeded views on the previous year every single year we have been doing this! Once again we have been told by several bands that our reviews have a positive effect on music sales and things like Facebook Likes so we’re even more grateful that you seem to be listening and acting upon our recommendations.

11. Indonesia  12. Netherlands  13. Sweden  14. Switzerland  15. Poland 16. Brazil 17. Czech Republic 18. Norway 19. Japan 20. Finland

So no real changes with the top six remaining exactly the same but the gap closing between the top two for the third year running. The only new country is Belgium who take over from Hungary and jumped into the #10 spot who dropped to #24 so obviously a quiet year for the Hungarian Celtic-Punk scene.

We know from regular checks on our WordPress stats page that we have regular readers from all over the world and a big shout out to our fan in the Ivory Coast. We look forward to seeing Catalonia listed separately soon along with all the Celtic nations as well as the Basque country, Sardinia and Corsica (all countries we have regular viewers from). Until they gain independence they continue to be listed under the counties that occupy them. Not for much longer we hope…

No question here with our Best Of 2018 romping home but the battle for 2nd place much more interesting withe the fascinating article about the Irish abroad written by Mike from The Templars Of Doom eventually moving clear in the last few days of the year. Special mention to the legendary Nic Burbridge who took the time out to write a brilliant Top Ten for us and also to the family of Glenn Dixon. I hope our help was useful if only in a little way. Rest in peace Glenn.

Way out in front the debut album from Celtic-Punk supergroup The Walker Roaders and a great review by Irish singer/songwriter Callum Houston. London Irish artist and LCP favourite Anto Morra wrote 2 of the Top Ten (4 and 7) and Raise Your Pints was a big success and they are already taking pre-orders for Volume 5 which sounds like the best one yet!!!
So there you have it. Not particularly interesting to anyone but me but maybe there’s someone else out there who gives a feck!!! The next couple of weeks will see the unveiling of the London Celtic Punks Best Of 2018 list so be sure to check back and find out who rocked our odd boat the last twelve months. So only left to wish you a peaceful and happy new year and to see us out here’s a brilliant song from one of the best Celtic-Punks bands in Eastern Europe, Всё Crazy from faraway Belarus titled ‘In Vileyka…’ telling of spending New Year in the city of Vileya.
